    Debate Team
    Places at Major Tournament

    The brand new BCEC Debate Team participated in two debate tournaments this fall: first at Bob Jones University in October, and most recently at the Cougar Classic at Asheville High School on November 22.


    Grant Hipps and Ashley Lilly placed in the top ten of Public Forum teams out of 42 participating teams from four states at the Cougar Classic Tournament.

  • BCS Continues to Outpace National and State Scores on The SAT

    In results recently released by The College Board, Buncombe County Schools’ (BCS) Class of 2014 boasted an SAT composite score of 1543, which is 60 points higher than the North Carolina average and 46 points higher than the National average. The SAT composite score is comprised of three testing areas: Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. For BCS, the individual testing results were: 520 for Critical Reading, 531 for Mathematics, and 492 in Writing.

    Twilight School Helps Students Graduate

    Buncombe County Schools' Graduation Initiative will again be offering the Twilight School program for high school students to earn new credits or recover credits in the evening. Any student who has failed a course and needs to repeat it or any student who needs a new course to get back on track for graduation may apply.

    BCS Middle and High School students will have the opportunity to earn credit for high school courses. It is an opportunity for an individual student who has an exceptional mastery of course content and who wishes to earn credit and move on into something more meaningful or challenging.
