Selecting
the right college and applying for scholarships can be a daunting task
for high school students and their parents. In an effort to alleviate
some of the confusion, Buncombe County Schools has scheduled a
district-wide Pre-College Informational Session to be held September 7 at the Asheville Mall.
School
counselors from each Buncombe County high school will present
information and answer questions pertaining to the college admissions
process. The sessions are designed to help parents and students learn
more about how to pick the right college/university, how to find
scholarships and general information on preparing students for college.
The event will pertain mostly to high school juniors and
seniors. The counselors will be available from 6 to 7 p.m., 7 to 8
p.m., and 8 to 9 p.m., in front of the Men’s Section at Dillard’s,
across from Hallmark.
On the same evening, the University of
North Carolina at Asheville will be hosting College Night at the
Asheville Mall for students and parents. “We believe this is a prime
opportunity to provide parents with additional information while they
are looking at the different colleges and universities that will be
there,” says Sonia Logan, the school district’s Director of Student
Services.
