Fairview Elementary Title 1 SMILE (Small group Multisensory Interactive Learning Environment)
|
What is Title 1?
Title 1 funding first began under President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965 as part of the Great Society Program. The purpose of Title 1 is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. Title 1 is now the largest federally funded program. The funds provide schools with additional staff, additional leveled books for our kids, staff training, supplemental materials for teachers and parent involvement.

How do Fairview students benefit?
Fairview is a school-wide Title 1 program where all students can benefit from the funds. The goal is that all students read proficiently at grade level. The Title 1 staff is comprised of one Title 1 teacher and 7 teacher assistants who conduct small group reading lessons in grades K-5 based on their reading levels. This way, teachers work cooperatively to teach and students learn at their own levels and progress with the direct instruction.
