2012 Summer Reading List and Projects
 
During the summer, students are expected to choose from a list of several titles to complete their summer reading assignments.  Instructions on how many books to read, as well as the requirements on completing a multi-tiered project, are detailed below. 
 
Summer Reading Expectations: 
 
Standard Englishread 1 book from the summer reading list 
Honors Englishread 2 books from the summer reading list
AP Englishread 3 books from the summer reading list
 
You may always read more than the required text(s) if you wish. 
 

Summer Project Expectations:
 
In addition to reading assignments, ALL students are expected to complete a multi-tiered project.  Honors and AP students have additional assignments as outlined below. 
 
All projects are due on the 15th day of school (first midterm) for all students, even standard level.
 
ALL STUDENTS:  Multi-tiered project
 
Honors 9th:   Newspaper (plus multi-tiered project)
Honors 10th: Travel Brochure (plus multi-tiered project) 
Honors 11th:  Book Cube (plus multi-tiered project)
Honors 12th:  ABC Book (plus multi-tiered project)
AP Students:  Multi-tiered project, PLUS grade level project and teacher-assigned project posted on Beth Hooper's website

Texts are available at EHS’s library.  Please check our school website for times when our media specialist will be available to check out books.  Texts may also be found in Buncombe County Libraries and bookstores in our area.   In addition, students may search used bookstores in our area for popular titles.  You may also ask former English students for books, or check online texts for e-books.  We recommend visiting http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl for help with assignments.
 
If you do not have internet access at home, you may visit the public library in your area for support.
