In my first year in Avery's Creek Elementary I have had the pleasure to discover that we have the "huggiest" most loving children I have ever come across in my career as a principal. I was mentioning to some friends that it must be a combination of the beauty we are surrounded by, the mountain air and how much love you give your children every day. I am truly fortunate and grateful to be of service to you and our community. I highly respect and appreciate how our parent teacher organization (PTO) is such a strong pillar in our school providing our teachers support every step of the way. I am proud of our staff for how much they focus on learning and how much they care. So many things to be thankful for.....I would also like to recognize the following community agencies and "friends of our school" for their presence supporting our school in so many ways :

We do not take for granted what others do for us; please know that we are sincerely grateful! As the holidays close in on us remember that you, parents, are your child's first and most influential teacher. Encourage them to continue reading during their time away from school. Here are are some quick tips to help make that "teaching time" at home effective:
- Get the whole family involved in reading books aloud
- Be a reading model; make sure your children see you reading every day
- Go to the library often. It's FREE!
- Play learning games like "Scrabble"
- Choose a page at random from a dictionary or thesaurus and try to come up with synonyms or antonyms or role play definitions
- Make time to talk with your children
- Leave each other nice, loving notes daily with a question for your child to reply back
With a positive attitude about the fun of learning and a little imagination, we can make the most of the important time we spend with our children. Have fun and spend time with your children---that's the most important gift you will ever give them!

Durante mi primer año en Avery's Creek Elementary he tenido el gran placer de descubrir la escuela con los niños mas cariñosos que jamas haya visto en mi carrera de principal. Le estuve mencionando a algunas amistades que esto se debera a la belleza natural que nos rodea y el aire en la montañas en combinación con el gran amor que ustedes le dan a sus hijos. Me siento muy afortunada y agradecida en poder ser de servicio para ustedes y nuestra comunidad. Tengo un alto respeto y aprecio por el apoyo ta que recibimos diariamente de nuestra organización de padres y maestros. Me siento muy orgullosa de nuestros maestros y su dedicación a la enseñanza-aprendizaje y lo mucho que quieren a sus estudiantes. Tantas cosas que agradecer.....Quiero darles reconocimiento a las siguientes agencias de nuestra comunidad y " amigos" de nuestra escuela por su presencia y el apoyo brindado en tantas formas diferentes. No damos por sentado lo que cada cual hace por nosotros; nos sentimos verdaderamente agradecidos. Ahora que nos acercamos a los dias especiales de de dar gracias y la epoca navideña, recuerden que ustedes, padres, son los maestros de mayor influencia en las vidas de sus hijos. Por favor, promuevan la lectura con ellos durante el tiempo de vacaciones. Comparto a consiguiente algunas maneras que pueden hacer esto en forma divertida:
- Lea un libro en voz alta con toda la familia
- Modele la lectura o escuche algun cuento grabado; asegurese que sus hijos los vean leer diariamente o que usted los escuche a ellos leer en voz alta. Llevelos a la biblioteca a menudo. !ES GRATUITO!
- Juegue con ellos juegos de mesa tales como "scrabble"
- Escoja una página del diccionario o el tesauro y hagan una lista de sinónimos y antónimos o pidales que dramatizen la definición de la palabra que escojan
- Tome tiempo para dialogar con sus hijos
- Déjeles notas lindas con alguna pregunta para que ellos les respondan
El tener una actitud positiva y divertida sobre el aprendizaje con un poco de imaginación, nos ayudara a sacarle mucho provecho al tiempo que compartamos con nuestros hijos. !Lo más importante es que disfruten y pasen tiempo con sus hijos---ese es el regalo de mayor valor que usted jamas le dara a sus hijos!
