Meet the School Counselor!

Liz Eads Parker

Ms. Parker (and Bob the puppet)

My name is Liz Eads Parker, and this is my fifth year as the school counselor at Hominy Valley. I grew up in Virginia, but I went to college here in North Carolina at Wake Forest University, where I studied Anthropology and Spanish. Go Deacs! After college I spent time working and studying in Spain and Guatemala. I worked for three years as a middle school Spanish teacher before getting my MS in Counseling and Human Development at Radford University in 2007. In 2012 I received my National Board certification. I love being a counselor and working with a diverse group of kids! When I am not at school, I enjoy yoga, hiking, crossword puzzles, and spending time with my charming husband and son!

The purpose of the counseling program at Hominy Valley Elementary is to create a positive environment that challenges students to grow socially, academically, and personally and to reach their fullest potential, enabling them to be a force for positive change in the world around them. As a counselor I interact with students in multiple contexts. I teach weekly guidance lessons on a variety of topics, including bullying, emotional awareness, study skills, friendship, conflict resolution, and career exploration. I also work with students individually or in small groups on issues such as grief and loss, family changes, self-esteem, coping with stress, time management and organization, and friendship skills. These students are referred to me by teachers, parents, or by themselves.

If you are a parent and you feel that your child would benefit from working with me, please contact me and let me know. If you are a student and you need to talk, leave me a note in the box on my door, and I'll try to talk to you as soon as I can!
