* Why were the 2012-13 calendars revised? 
Last year, the state legislature mandated that the 2012-13 school year would contain 185 student days...no exceptions. Therefore, the calendar developed by the approximately thirty members  of the BCS calendar committee (parents, teachers, administrators and other staff) developed a 185 day calendar which was passed by the Board last November. Since then, however, the State Department of Instruction was allowed to grant waivers for several of the original student days to be used for staff development. The revised BCS calendars, available by clicking the links above, contain 182 student days, the same number as in the current 2011-12 school year, with three days dedicated to staff development.
