CHILD NUTRITION SUBSTITUTE HIRING PROCESS
Child Nutrition (CN) substitutes are employed by the Buncombe County Schools on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent Child Nutrition employees. In order to be a CN substitute, an individual must be at least 18 years old, and must be approved by the Buncombe County Board of Education. Also, in order to remain on the active substitute list, individuals must substitute a minimum of one (1) time per school year. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the individual being inactivated and a minimum of a six month waiting period will apply before you can re-apply to be on the CN substitute list.
To begin the process you will need to do the following:
Buncombe County Schools requires that all applicants for all positions complete the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) online application. When completing the online application you must choose to submit the application to "Buncombe County Schools." Your application will be submitted within 24 hours. To make sure that your application has been received, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 828.255.5932. The application must be completely filled out. Failure to submit a complete application may delay processing of the application.
Fill out the appropriate Substitute Employment Forms and send to:
Buncombe County Schools
Child Nutrition Department
Attn: Kelly Frady
175 Bingham Road
Asheville, NC 28806
Alternatively, you can scan and e-mail your materials to email@example.com.
Your application will then be reviewed, references called, and a complete background check will be completed. If acceptable, your application will be submitted to the Board of Education for approval at its next regular meeting. CN substitutes play an important role in the everyday operation of the local school. It is extremely important that the job responsibilities are understood and followed. NOTE: Because CN substitutes may serve in many schools with limited ability for consistent supervision, a complaint from any school about the performance of a CN substitute may result in excluding that substitute from the schools' CN substitute list and/or removing that substitute from the Buncombe County Schools' approved CN substitute list.
CN Substitutes’ Pay is the same as a CN Assistant II position on the CN salary schedule at step 0.
If you have any further questions in reference to CN substituting, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 828.255.5932.
