This is a reminder about a health requirement your child must meet before entering the 7th grade. All 7th grade students must have both the Tdap and the Meningitis vaccines before entering school in the fall. Students who received the Tdap vaccine last year before entering 6th grade do not need it again. You can get immunizations for your child at two places: Your child’s doctor, please call to make an appointment soon to be sure your child can be seen before the first day of school. Buncombe County Department of Health Immunization Clinic - no appointment is necessary. Please be advised that wait time at the immunization clinic tends to be longer the closer we get to school starting. Please bring a copy of your child’s completed immunization record to school as soon as possible before the start of school. Without this up-to-date record, North Carolina law does not allow your child to stay in school beyond the first 30 days. (G.S. 130A-155) Thank you for your help with this important matter. We hope you are having a great summer!
On September 2, 2015, teachers, parents, community members, and students gathered for a public forum at Erwin High School to address the inappropriate display of students’ class project posters reflecting a variety of contemporary political topics, including immigration-related views.
