about usOur School is located in the beautiful Swannanoa Valley in the  Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. There are approximately 625 students in grades 6-8. The school was founded in 1991 with the consolidation of Black Mountain and Swannanoa Middle Schools. Our school is named in honor of Charles Dexter Owen, who arrived in the valley from New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1924 and began operation of our community’s first industry: Beacon Blankets. The Owen family has been community benefactors for many years. OMS proudly wears maroon and grey and is the Home of the Warcolts.
