Bell Elementary 2010-11 Parent Involvement Policy

The Buncombe County Board of Education and the Staff at C.C. Bell Elementary believe that the education of children is a cooperative effort between parents and schools. Parents are their children’s first teachers and parental involvement improves the educational achievement of their children. We believe that the involvement of Bell parents increases the effectiveness of the program and contributes significantly to the success of the children. The Bell Elementary staff will strive to involve parents in activities throughout the school year. Parents will be made aware of these events via Alert Now phone messages, school newsletters, school website, and take-home flyers.  The Bell staff will invite all families to an annual meeting. Meetings will be offered at various times in order to accommodate various parents’ time schedules. The purpose of these meetings will be to discuss the programs and activities provided with Title 1 funds. Parents will also have the opportunity to review the program that has been planned for their child and his/her progress will be reported and discussed. Parents are always welcome in the school and in their child’s classroom to volunteer, and observe. The staff will solicit input from parents and inform them of their right to consult in the design and implementation of the project. A parent representative from Bell will serve on the Buncombe County Title I Parent Advisory Council to share and disseminate information.  Parents will always be offered the opportunity to confer with their child’s teacher. Parents are asked to sign the Student/Parent/School Compact at the beginning of the school year in order to establish a common goal for the student.  The Bell staff implements each small group reading lesson with the intent that each and every student will feel successful and confident about their reading ability.
