Coach and Woodfin's physical education teacher Zach Wilkins coaches over 20 boys every Thursday after school.  When the group first meets they talk about health, nutrition, and physical fitness.  Each boy sets a running goal that they want to reach by the end of the year.  They also set a goal for that particular day everytime they meet and try to reach that goal for the day.  After the boys stretch and do warm ups agilities, they move on to the main focus of distance running.  The boys will then try to meet the time they have set for themselves that day.

After running, the group comes back together to cool down and re-stretch. During this time, the boys and Coach Wilkins talk about the importance of cooling down after exercise, stretching and how the body works and functions during this entire process.  The objective is for each boy to reach their running goal by the end of they year and for each boy to learn and understand the importance of exercise, good diet, and how to incorporate that knowledge into an active and healthy life.

By the spring semester the group hopes to be ready to enlist in a local 5K race.  More information will be given about that when the time gets closer.

If you would like to join, you will need to talk to Coach Wilkins and have a signed permission slip.
