Three Early College students have been awarded a 2011 summer internship with Mission Hospital.  The students, (from left) Bennet Belair, Tatyana Davidchuk, and LaShea Bullard will join seventeen other Buncombe County high school students in Mission Possible, a collaborative venture between Mission Hospital and Buncombe County High Schools.  The internship is "designed to ensure student success by providing academic enrichment and employment opportunities for students in a healthcare setting."  The internship is a payed, four-week program that runs from 9am-2pm daily.  All students had to participate in an application and interview process.  Congratulations!

Ninety-eight Buncombe County high school students were recognized at the 2011 Top Scholars Banquet on April 19th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Asheville. Each year Buncombe County Schools honors the top 15 students from the senior class at each of the six traditional high schools. Students from Buncombe County Early & Middle College are also honored at the event. Besides excelling academically, the majority of these students are involved in a number of extra-curricular activities, displaying a variety of achievements both in and out of the classroom.

Twelve more Early College students were eligible to join Phi Theta Kappa honor society this year. Students with at least 12 credit hours of A-B Tech classes and a college GPA of at least 3.5 are eligible for PTK membership. There are many possibilities for scholarships through the club as well as multiple opportunities for community service. The club also offers an outlet to become more involved with adult college students at A-B Tech. The students are:
