Curriculum
Early College students take both high school and college courses on the campus of A-B Tech in downtown Asheville. In addition to meeting high school graduation requirements, we offer a structured sequence of courses so that students receive the academic support they need to be successful in their college courses, which they will take beginning immediately in the ninth grade. Students will have the opportunity to earn either an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or Associate in Applied Science degree. While most students can complete their degree program in five years, some degree programs will require additional summer or evening courses.

Tuition
The tuition for the college courses is covered for students for the five years they attend Early College. Students may be responsible for the cost of some of their college textbooks. Our students also have access to various college resources, including the Learning Resources Center, academic learning labs, and computer labs.

Parent Involvement
We encourage parents to be actively involved in their student’s education, and we strive to keep families informed about students’ progress. Students are assigned a “House” advisor who meets with a small group of students daily and who can provide support as students make the transition from middle school to high school and college.Furthermore, we hope that our small-school design allows for more individual attention and greater instructional effectiveness.

School Schedule
BCEC follows a calendar that is different from the Buncombe County Schools calendar because we are aligned closely with A-B Tech's academic calendar. Transportation is provided by Buncombe County Schools for students in the ninth and tenth grades. Older students’ schedules will vary greatly because they will be enrolled in more ABTCC courses, students must provide their own transportation beginning in the eleventh grade.
