Buncombe County Early College students are eligible to join Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Students with at least 12 credit hours of A-B Tech classes and a college GPA of at least 3.5 are eligible for PTK membership. There are many possibilities for scholarships through the club as well as multiple opportunities for community service. The club also offers an outlet to become more involved with adult college students at A-B Tech. Christine Jones, earth and environmental science teacher, is the Early College faculty contact.

Lisa York, A-B Tech faculty advisor shared her excitement regarding Phi Theta Kappa, "Opportunities for members are limitless.  Our current members have competed for and won a variety of scholarships, hosted a regional event for eighty-one chapters in North and South Carolina, raised over $3,000 Relay for Life last year, traveled to exciting places, made new friends, and participated in many other fun activities while learning about and exemplifying Phi Theta Kappa’s hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship.  Recently, our chapter earned over 20 awards (including first runner-up as the Most Distinguished Chapter) at the regional level, and they are expected to win others at the international level in April.  These awards will be topics of college and scholarship applications for the students who were active in the chapter last year."
