The Glen Arden Media Center maintains a collection of books and other resources to support the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Grades K-5. Materials are selected that kindle growth in factual knowledge, literature appreciation, ethical standards, and multi-cultural awareness. The Media Center strives to offer a variety of practical information to enable students to become lifelong learners. The growing collection contains plenty of books that support the school-wide Accelerated Reader Program.
Media classes, which implement puppets and include storytimes and computer skills, are held on a regular schedule for K-5. Library lessons support the Information Skills strategies developed by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Blocks are available for teachers to sign up for research or computer class time as needed.
Classroom teachers have library check-out passes issued by the Media Center for students to use during daily open check-out times. This enables students to have a book to read at all times. Teachers also have AR passes for students to use for testing throughout the school day.
The Media Center staff coordinates Scholastic Book Fairs in November and March. Profits from these book fairs are used to enhance the Media Center's collection.
