English Language Learners (ELLs) are identified through protocol established by NC Department of Public Instruction and Buncombe County Public Schools via Home Language Surveys and the administration of the IPT. AC Reynolds Middle School currently serves close to 60 English Language Learners (ELLs). Our ELLs come from Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, and Jordan.
We provide a “Push-in” program, where ELLs in the same grade level are clustered in classes along with mainstream, native English-speaking students. All students are taught the NC Standard Course of Study in each content area. The ESL teacher provides support through collaboration and co-teaching with the content area teachers in each grade. Assignments are modified as needed. In addition, novice level ELLs receive support each morning in a pull-out ESL class.
Please contact Rachel Shelton, ESL Teacher, if you would like further information.
