Welcome to our web page! This year we have 11 Title One instructional assistants and one reading specialist working in our Language Arts classrooms. We serve both fifth and sixth grade students in small group settings for thirty minute sessions. Students read texts on their levels and the Title One staff plan lessons that strengthen word work skills and improve reading comprehension.
The Title One program is in its fourth year of operation at North Windy Ridge School. Our goal is to provide a high quality of education for every child, especially to students who are at risk of not meeting state academic standards. Targeted students (those below grade level) also receive a Title One progress report every nine weeks in addition to the regular report card. These students receive ongoing progress monitoring in the form of research based reading assessments.
Title One funds are received from the federal government under the No Child Left Behind law. These funds are used for Title One staff salaries, instructional materials for students, professional development opportunities for teachers, and parent involvement events. All students at North Windy Ridge benefit from Title One funds. We currently have two book rooms at North Windy Ridge School in addition to our Media Center which provides resources for small group reading instruction at all levels.
If you have any questions about our Title One program or our after school homework club, please contact Ms. Queen at (828) 658-1892. Thank you for visiting our web page. Please check back from time to time for updates.
