Media Centers

The School Library Media and Instructional Technology programs in Buncombe County Schools (BCS) are an integral part of the instructional program. It is the infrastructure that supports teaching and learning.

The media and technology program and its resources are not static. In our 21st century environment, they are constantly evolving, mandating on-going update and revision. Through the media center, BCS provides access to high quality authentic, electronic, digital and print resources that are aligned with the Common Core and North Carolina Essential Standards.  These resources are used throughout the schools to effectively integrate information and technology standards, promote student literacy, and facilitate collaborative learning environments. Media Specialists and classroom teachers collaborate to create a 21st century learning environment in which student learning is the focus.

Our media centers' mission is to complement, support and expand the instructional program through the North Carolina Information and Technology Essential Standards.

BCS media centers provide open, point of need access for students and teachers. Students and staff have web based access available at home and school to use the Destiny Library Manager program that provides each school's Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC.)
