Leicester Elementary builds capacity for strengthening parental involvement by:
Providing an annual meeting to inform parents of Title I and to explain the requirements of the Title I program
Including parents on the Parent Advisory Council, PTO Board, School Improvement Team, and District Parent Council
Inviting parents to conference with teachers about their children’s school performance, to attend meetings to discuss programs and activities, and to consult in the design and implementation of programs particularly those supported with Title I funds.
Providing materials and training to parents to assist with their child’s education
Developing a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve State Standards
Sending information and communication to parents in an easy to understand format
Encouraging parents to volunteer in and visit classrooms
Before school begins in August, parents are invited to bring their children to school to meet their teacher and begin learning about expectations.
Teachers write letters/newsletters/update classroom web page monthly to inform parents about classroom learning activities and events.
Teachers will offer face-to-face and/or phone conferences with parents at least twice per year to share information concerning their children’s strengths and needs.
Parents are encouraged to schedule additional conferences if needed.
Parents are welcome to schedule visits in their children’s classroom and are encouraged to volunteer in various ways.
The principal and assistant principal invite parents to call or request a conference whenever they need the support of the administration.
The principal and assistant principal call/inform parents for their support to meet the needs of their children.
A school-wide newsletter is published monthly by the administration and sent home to parents about upcoming events. Title I school-wide newsletter is sent home twice a year.
At least four PTO meeting are scheduled during the year.
An evening “Open House” is held in September to provide more information about the academic program and expectations in the classrooms.
Family Nights and grade level programs are scheduled throughout the year to give students opportunities to share what they are learning in the classroom with their parents. Transition Night is held at the end of year.
Parents will be given the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops that will assist them on how to work with their child at home to help ensure academic success.
An evening for incoming Kindergarteners and their parents is scheduled in the spring to learn more about the kindergarten program and expectations.
In the summer, students are offered a summer reading program in several ways. Tutoring is avaliable and a summer reading log is sent home at the end of the school year for students and parents to keep track of reading.
