|Welcome to my Classroom|
Mrs. Courtenay Constable
Hi, I am looking forward to working with you (if you are a student) or your son or daughter (if you are a parent)!! At Owen, I will be teaching the Occupational Course of Study to grades 9-12. I will mainly be teaching English 1-3 and reading, as well as Occupational Prep 1.
I have lived in Swannanoa for 16 years with my husband. We have a 10 year old daughter. Before coming to Buncombe County Schools in January of 2012, I worked at Old Fort Elementary School in McDowell County for 10 years as a Special Education Teacher. My specialty was teaching struggling readers how to decode all types of text. I am very happy to be working in my own community!
I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Special Education at Western Carolina University in 2005. I graduated with Honors in Psychology when I earned my Bachelor of Science at Appalachian State University in 1991. Before I figured out what I "wanted to be when I grew up", I majored in voice at Brevard College. I still enjoy singing in a garage band and I love all types of music. Before I was a teacher, I worked in the field of Health Care and I worked for a law firm in Asheville. I also worked as an Office Administrator for a small Intermediate Care Facility (group home for adults with developmental disabilities) in Arcata, CA for about 3 years. For enjoyment, I love to hike in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. I also love traveling at home and abroad, especially in Europe.
I respect every one of my students and hope that I can share some of my knowledge and experience with them. I want them to learn to LOVE LEARNING! My door is always open to any parent or guardian who has questions or concerns about your child. Please contact me for any reason!
Owen is a wonderful, welcoming family and I look forward to many years at Owen!
