I am from Catawba, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I started teaching in Rowan-Salisbury Schools where I taught Science for half a year, then Math for a full year. I then taught Math and Science at Mooresville Middle School for the 2013-2014 school year. I moved to the Asheville area in June to be with my fiance. We will be getting married in April 2015 at Lake Lure. I am excited to start a new journey at Cane Creek Middle School!
Gina Schweitzer and Keith Bogardus were awarded a $3000 grant from Dollar General that allows them to create a 1:1 classroom with Kindle Fire HD Devices. The grant money will also fund an online reading program that delivers leveled text to each student. Gina Schweitzer was also awarded a $1200.00 grant from Donor's Choose to purchase four more Kindles for her classroom. Gina Schweitzer, II teacher , Susan Andrew, BCS grant writer, and Kendra Cameron Jarvis, Cane Creek Literacy Coach, wrote these grants at the end of last school year. Thanks to Dollar General and other generous benefactors these students will have the opportunity to read thousands of books at their reading level on a digital device.
Cane Creek was one of two schools in Buncombe County that received all "A's" from NC prevention Partners for the 2013-14 school year.
This opportunity is part of the district’s Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) agreement and will provide students with a tool for learning at home using the most current, universally accepted platforms in the marketplace today.
